Roots vacuum pump is a rotary volumetric vacuum pump. Its structure is evolved from roots blower. It first appeared in Germany in 1944. It is used as a mechanical booster pump for vacuum smelting system with large pumping speed in the pressure range of 10-1000Pa.
According to the different working pressure range of Roots vacuum pump, it can be divided into low vacuum Roots pump with direct air discharge, medium vacuum Roots pump (mechanical booster pump) and high vacuum multi-stage Roots pump. The most commonly used domestic vacuum pump is the roots vacuum pump. Roots pump has the following characteristics compared with other oil sealed mechanical pumps.
There is a larger pumping speed in a wider pressure range.
The rotor has good geometrical symmetry, so the vibration is small and the operation is stable. There are clearances between the rotors and between the rotors and the housing. Without lubrication, the friction loss is small, which can greatly reduce the driving power and achieve higher speed.
There is no need to seal and lubricate the oil in the pump chamber, which can reduce the pollution of the oil vapor to the vacuum system.
Pump chamber without compression, no exhaust valve. The structure is simple and compact, and it is not sensitive to the dust and steam in the gas pumped.
The compression is relatively low, and the effect of hydrogen extraction is poor.
The surface of the rotor is a complex curved cylinder, which is difficult to process and inspect.
Roots pump has been developing rapidly at home and abroad in recent years. It has been widely used in smelting, petrochemical, electrician, electronics and other industries.
